Busy Bee

Feels like forever since I made a post but I have been so busy that's why. But hey, hey, hey I am back and I don't plan to leave again!

So what has kept me so busy?  Work! Family! and Uni but most importantly London Fashion Week ( I know it finished a couple of days ago but I needed time to recover).

This was my first (very exciting) experience of fashion week and I loved every minute of it and can't wait for more

The morning of day one was the only day I could really enjoy before the 'A La Mode' show for work. So on that morning we (Myself and Colleagues) attended the Maria Grachvogel show where we sat in a brightly lit room and enjoyed some great fashion which consisted of bold prints, excellent drapings and strong make-up.
On that day we also attended the Prophetik which was amazing. An atmosphere was created with the music by violinist Analiza Ching and an ochestra. I fell in love with the whole show especially the final look which was a beautiful white dress.
During Fashion Week and the three days of the 'A la Mode' fashion I met (and saw) some really great people who I have admired in the Fashion industry.
The life of these 'fashionistas' always looks so glamorous and fun but I have to say it is HARD WORK!! but I loved every minute of it and I want more!

My day at Scoop and Pure London

Scoop international is a fashion event that showcases contemporary and premium collections. The event which was just launched is aimed at buyers who come to see the new collections of these designers in a bid to find new stock for their stores.

The entrance to Saatchi Gallery
The event started on Sunday the 13th and will end on Tuesday the 15th of February. I got the opportunity to attend this event today and I have to say I felt odd there. I felt like an ant in between these 'fashionistas'. The buyers all seem to talk and act the same as they networked in their ‘lil’ corners talking about fashion shows, showrooms, trends and boutiques.
Why was I there? (Good question)I went there for work. Like the buyers my aim was to 'network'. I was out to find interesting collections etc and carry out interviews for LGN Events (www.lgn-events.co.uk).
I was meant to attend with my ‘boss’ ( Yolande) but she was late so I decided to go in alone. It’s not crowded is the 1st thing I thought when  walked in(at 11).... I looked around for a while then I got bored so I went to the cafe at the venue to wait for Yolande...I waited and waited and waited...
There were many brands showcasing their beautiful collections.. There were shoes, bags, coats, dresses, scarves etc lots of...The clothes are luxurious and high-end. It was bit too much for me thought because I like my cheap stuff so I couldn't really sink into the hmmms and ahhhhhs taking place around me... But I loved what I saw. Like these shoes by Minna Parrika

But the main thing that caught my eye was actually the Saatchi Gallery. It is such a beautiful place. My favourite part of the building was the cafe. (picture below)....

Unlike Scoop international fashion show, Pure London was manic.Pure London is a There were people and stalls everywhere. We didn't even get to see everything. It was a great day though. I got to meet Alisha White from BNTM (she so lovely!), Samanda aka Samantha and Amanda Marchant from Big Brother(they have changed soooo much) and Erica Mathews.(This was so weird because we follow each other on twitter and have spoken via email but we never met face to face)...
Anyway the whole day itself was good. I carried out four interviews for the LGN events blog and I discover two very nice brands (Sana London-see pictures below and Angeleyes.

The Weekend....and my wish to be lazy

Every Saturday, like many people out there, Saturday is the only day(sometimes Sunday) which I would like to use to act like a complete sloth!....

My usual Saturday 'plans'

1.Go to bed as late as my body can handle on Friday night.
2. Wake up as late as possible on Saturday.
3.DO NOT TIDY UP ANYTHING!!
4.Munch on microwave Popcorn as breakfast lunch and dinner.
5.Watch everything that SKY has to offer or whatever I recorded during the week.

Now here is what usually happens on my Saturday.

1. After a long week all I want to do is SLEEP! so I go to bed at my usual time on Friday night
2. I don't wake up as late as possible. I normally wake up at 9.30am (11am at the latest)
3. I tidy up! EVERYWHERE! (Kitchen, bathroom, Living Room, Cupboard, wardrobes the lot)
4. I cook!
5. Rather than watch TV I endure hours and hours of Playhouse Disney.

So you see, like they say you don't get what you wish for. All my usual plans are aborted and replaced by reality!

What am I doing this Saturday? Ohh, just the usual but on top of that I am getting my new camera *SQUEALS with JOY* I have been dreaming about it for a long time. I have a couple that I would like to check out before I make the ultimate decision.
This weekend I will also be attending Pure London 2011 and Scoop International Fashion Show *OMG* I am so excited about this. I plan to take notes and ‘piccies’ of everything I see so be ready to be bombarded.
I have started my official count down to LFW. Less than a week now *YAY*. I get to attend some really cool shows and do a segment on what people are wearing to the shows...what is on the catwalk.... and much more.....
Anyway enough of the rambling ...... speak soon *Hugs & Kisses*

Back to Uni

After having almost 8weeks off I was excited to return to the 'awesome' world of education.( This excitement will die down with the next few days!
The first module I had was for my dissertation. This module scares me. Why? Well, I am the type of person who struggles with a 3000 words essay so how am I going to tackle 10000 words?
Before starting the module I was advised by a friend to start thinking about my focus area. I chose Media and Gender but wanted to include race as well.
During A Level Media Studies, I became interested in Laura Mulvey's work on the visual pleasure. During the early days of Uni I stumbled upon it again. Her work is mostly based on films and I wanted to talk about Lifestyle magazine.HHMMMMmmmmmm........... (Got my thinking face on). After hours of thinking and the fact that my dissertation module leader said my question did not create a debate I gave up. Thank to my lovely friend Emily there was a bright light at the end of the tunnel after all. My dissertation question is.....Is there an under representation of black women in mainstream lifestyle magazines? :D good question right?...I know, I know.
Anyway unlike the majority whose first semester begins in September, mine and a few others start in February. This means our timetable, Uni Life etc is confusing. I am just going into my 3rd.(Please don't ask me when I will be graduating because even I'm not sure). We as 'Feb Starters don't get all that welcome to University, Key Skills and student union malarkey that the september starters get. We are just expected to dive in there and understand what University is about.

One thing I always find difficult is what to wear to Uni. Especially during the first week back. They say first impressions matter (I know I shouldn't care about what others think of me but I do. Sad but true!.) I like to have a 'stylish' first impression. But deciding what to wear to Uni for me is like deciding what to wear to meet the parents. It’s a daunting affair. But it’s something that has got to be done. This is what I wore! What do you this? Fab? Or drab?...Comment Below.........

My first actual blog post!

Ok--- Here goes......

I registered this blog in 2009 during a module at Uni and was told I had to publish at least once a week. Did I listen? Haha! nope.

I used to be very sceptical about blogging. I never saw the relevance of it. Just thought it was just another thing technology has introduced to the world. As time went on I was enlightened.

I have always been a reader of blogs though. I would sign on to my laptop just to read certain blogs.

----------------------------------------------------

Throughout this week I have been thinking about what I wanted my blog to be about, what to focus on etc. I found this really difficult. Ilove fashion but I didn't want it to be the typical fashion blog . I wanted it to have more to it there are enough fashion blogs out there. I want my blog to reflect who I am as a person. For my 'JOY-ful' personality to shine through. In the end I just decided it will be a random blog. I will post whatever comes to mind when I sit down in front of my laptop.

So raise your glass *Raises Glass up* to the the randomness that is my world. ENJOY THE RIDE! :D
